Are they crazy or just not thinking? Do they not realize what will happen if the minimum wage is raised to $15? They will not be better off, they may actually be in worse shape and here is why.
1) The company, stores, etc that hire these people and pay their salaries will have to raise the price of goods to compensate for the additional expense and may even cut positions.
2) The people receiving the pay will go into a higher tax bracket and end up paying higher taxes.
So they will be paying more for the goods they purchase which will include food and then end up paying more in taxes, which will mean they will be bringing in less money than they did before.
It just makes no sense to me and if you disagree please tell me why. I would really like to hear your point of view.
